Press Release: Spring Loaded Technology wins NSBI Exporter of the Year Award

Spring Loaded named “Exporter of the Year” by Nova Scotia Business Inc.

Dartmouth, NS – June 12, 2018 – Today at the Nova Scotia Business Inc. (NSBI) annual gala, Spring Loaded Technology came away with the ‘Exporter of the Year’ award for new businesses exporting 5 million dollars or less of product. Every year NSBI formally recognizes promising and successful local businesses operating within the province. The awards are designed to showcase companies that are both innovative and have contributed to the growth of the local economy.

Receiving the award was CEO Chris Cowper-Smith, “We are extremely grateful to be recognized in this way, and feel honoured to share the stage with some of Nova Scotia’s finest entrepreneurs.”

Spring Loaded Technology launched its Levitation® bionic knee brace last year, and has received growing interest in its flagship product which promises to treat a variety of knee-related ailments. With increased manufacturing capacity the company is poised to expand its reach and service a broader market.

“We have recently worked to scale up our production and have made significant strides within the US market”, says Chris Cowper-Smith. “In the coming years we plan to grow our international presence and deliver more of our technology to those who need it”.

For many future customers this need will come in the the form of Osteoarthritis – a degenerative condition that can dramatically reduce the function of the knee joint, causing severe pain and reduced mobility. Osteoarthritis impacts the majority of the aging population to some degree and typically worsens over time. Given its chronic nature, the condition is difficult to manage and often results in full knee replacement surgery as a last resort.

According to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), by 2030, 70 million Americans over the age of 65 will be at risk of developing osteoarthritis. With a significant portion of the world-wide population entering old age, the demand for non-surgical alternatives is expected to rise dramatically.

“We have identified key areas where advancement in conservative treatment protocols is needed to provide better outcomes for patients” explains Cowper-Smith. Innovative products such as the Levitation® bionic knee brace will help increase the patient’s ability to manage their chronic conditions themselves. This in turn could decrease the burden on healthcare systems that are already struggling to keep up with the demands of an aging population.

The future holds great promise for Spring Loaded Technology as it moves forward to help patients and practitioners overcome knee pain and dysfunction.
